Revamping Survival & Finishing Visuals
Survival Revamped
In the first version of Meteor Miner, the Survival gamemode was basically just a flight practice mode where you'd dodge meteors, aliens, and other obstacles, with no shooting ability. This was pretty boring. So instead, I've decided to go more true to the genre of Survival and add resource management to this gamemode to raise the stakes.
- The player now has a Gas and Ammo gauge
- Destroying meteors slightly refills your lowest resource
- Ammo / gas replenishers are added to the power-ups pool in this gamemode. These fill the respective gauge when picked up
- The repair power-up now also fills both resource gauges
- At the start of the boss level in all gamemodes, the repair power-up will now always spawn at the bottom of the screen
Visuals (nearly) Finished
When the game first released, there were a lot of un-finished visuals still in the game. Most notably the logo, explosions (which used GameMaker's native effects), and the destroyed glass nodules on the Mothership. This was done just to get the game launched obviously... but now almost all visuals are finished! Trying to list all the updates made below:
- All native GameMaker explosion effects have been replaced with hand-made explosions for each type:
- Alien bodies
- Mothership nodules
- Asteroids (big & small)
- Ships (player & UFOs)
- UFO blasts (big & small)
- Mothership has been pretty much completely revamped:
- Nodules have been completed (along with the finished broken sprite)
- Entire Mothership has had its lightning redone, and now lights up when the tractor beam is active
- Tractor beam emitter has been redone and made more detailed
- New logo on main menu
- Ammo / gas powerups have their own powerup bubbles
More Console Commands
- Added spawn_asteroid which spawns the specified number of asteroids
- Added a lot of secret commands! See if you can figure them out...
Bug Fixes
Not gonna lie I did not keep track of these... but I do remember a few:
- Fixed an issue where, when running up against the Mothership the player would get stuck
- Fixed an issue where, when running up against the Mothership while it's coming down from the top, it would get stuck too
- Fixed an issue where, during the boss fight, flying downward would get you stuck on the Mothership at the top of the screen. Player will now bounce on the bottom of the screen only during the boss fight
